New Money

Bahrain's new currency is now officially all over the place; If you haven't already seen it, go to your nearest ATM and withdraw something, you'll get some.

Besides all the new security features, designs, etc, there are a few things that get me puzzled over this:

- Is it just me or the do the old notes look a lot nicer? Especially the Arabic side; blugh. The colors are also pretty confusing - they're not very defined. Ie, the previous notes were BROWN, BLUE, RED etc.. These new ones are like reddish brown, brownish red, bluish green, greenish blue, etc..

- They put the Bahrain International Circuit on the currency. Goddamit guys, get over it! You're not the only country in the world with a circuit! It's not that big of an achievment (especially considering Dubai already has an Autodrome, Abu Dhabi is getting a circuit next year, etc etc)

- Why were they released now? Two weeks before Formula 1, when floods of people are going to be coming into Bahrain? Is it just to confuse the tourists? I mean, it's bad enough for tourists to meddle with a new currency, but now you have two different versions of our currency, besides the numerous Saudi currency floating around, as well as the Dollar and Euro notes all over the place.

Doesn't matter what the notes look like as long as you have a lot of them :P (btw, are the old notes still legal tender?)

Don't know about the old ones being nicer, I think they look fine. But I agree with you on the colors, they're a bit confusing!

The timing is bad as you said, wayed mesta3yeleen 3alaihom!! they can't wait to show them off.

The circuit ... no comment..

You are right about circuits in other countries too so no big deal not unless every countries decide to print too and becomes a collector's item for money collectors ;)

Ammar,
Your a smart guy. Lets think together:
Was one of the reasons of the new currency forged notes?
Perhaps, Releasing the new notes just intime when all the other tourists flood in with counterfits is a good time.
BIC, why not? We are proud of what we have regardless if others have it or not. I took a racing course in Dubai's Autodrom and I still like the BIC better.
As for design, people said the same thing when the old ones were introduced the first time "ooh, the previous ones look better". You'll grow over it.

well it won't bother me much if i ever get there! ;)

but i think you're lucky to be in a small country where it'll be changing fast... while now they have been planning to change the whole euro!!! imagine the prob then around here... and this not just one country but quite few! :P

They look fine to me, a lot like the Euro (currency of the now-largest economy in the world - I say with competitive glee).

Even I have heard of the Bahrain circuit too, so it does not seem unusual to have it there.

Hmmm, I forget, is that the old 5 Riyal bill or the new one?

The "5" is very similar to a saudi currency, forgot what it was though... maybe a 5 or a 50

Ur eyes just need time to adjust to the change. I love our latest q80 currency more than the old ones.

lol! Reminds me of the consternation that occurred when Nigeria released new Naira notes in 2007.

Reminds me of when we switched to the Euro. Sorry but, what an ugly currency! The banknote are tiny and look like Monopoly money.

When I first seen some Bahrain money on the table in my soon to be husbands flat 20 years ago...my first impression was that is was some sort of board game play money thrown out...lol. It hasnt changed much since then. I still prefer the greenback...call me sentimental.

Yup, you've got valid arguments. Are there any new coins? I think the notes look quite nice.
